We don’t know what’s going on for other people. Whatever’s going on for you, I hope you find your way home. TikvaWolf.com
Text reads:
I keep seeing people warn against a local “scammer” woman asking for money downtown. They say her car is too nice, or her stories about “trying to get back home” are inconsistent.
But I want people to know that homelessness doesn’t just look one way, and that if someone is out in the cold asking for help it’s because that is probably their ONLY option in that moment.
My cousin Rudy has schizophrenia and one reason he’s alive is because strangers offer assistance, despite him possibly looking “too nice” or having inconsistent stories or seeming like he’s on drugs. Sometimes he has places to stay, and sometimes he doesn’t.
Sometimes I don’t know if he’s alive, because he disappears for years when his angels tell him not to trust anyone again. So when a stranger asks me for help, I give whatever I can, because they could be someone else’s Rudy.
To the woman downtown: I don’t know what you need, but I hope you find your way home.
